Morocco's Agricultural Exports Surge 18% Despite Severe Drought

Despite the drought that hit Morocco during the 2021-2022 agricultural season, Moroccan agricultural exports are up 18%.

The drought did not have a negative impact on Moroccan agricultural exports. In exports, the food and agricultural products sector has recorded appreciable performance, notes La Vie éco. Vegetable exports reached 773,000 tons from September 1, 2021 to the end of February 2022, up 18% compared to the same period of the previous season, it is reported. Citrus exports, for their part, increased by 37% at the end of February, or 566,000 tons. A year earlier, the volume of citrus fruits sold did not exceed 412,000 tons.

Exports of processed agricultural products (excluding sugar and its preparations) are following the same trend, reaching 525,000 tons, an increase of 14% at the end of 2021. In value, these exports amount to 12 billion dirhams at the end of 2021, an improvement of 20%. An improvement that continued in the first two months of 2022. An increase of 11% in volume and 43% in value was recorded at the end of February 2022.

The exports of the agriculture and agri-food sector were strengthened for the month of January alone, notes the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. "In value, this strengthening is of the order of 8.4% incorporating an increase in the value of food industry shipments of 36.2% (after a decline of 13.5% a year earlier)," it is specified.
