Morocco’s AFCON Exit Sparks Parliamentary Inquiry into Coach’s Salary and Team Budget

Morocco’s 2-1 defeat against Egypt in extra time during the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2021) has upset the Parliament. The latter has in its sights the Moroccan coach Vahid Halilhodzic and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
The parliamentarians are dismayed. They struggle to understand that means are being made available to the Moroccan team for little results. Deputy Abdessamad Heikar sent a written question to the Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, to find out the emoluments of the Bosnian technician, and the budget allocated to the expenses of his technical, medical and administrative staff.
As for the socialist group, it questioned the minister on the dysfunctions behind the repeated failures of the Moroccan national football team. Without forgetting to point the finger at the responsibility of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). The parliamentary group believes that the FRMF is one of the richest national sports institutions, and "we cannot therefore attribute the great confusion, the negative results and the successive setbacks of the national team in the African Cups, to limited means or a low budget".
For the socialist group, this observation "tangibly confirms the weakness and incapacity of the FRMF to put its finger on the dysfunctions to correct them, content to appoint foreign technical executives with exorbitant salaries, without any result".
