Morocco Advances Plans for 2030 World Cup Bid in Royal Council Meeting

King Mohammed VI chaired a Council of Ministers at the Royal Palace in Rabat on Wednesday, mainly dedicated to Morocco’s preparations for hosting the 2030 World Cup.

Fouzi Lekjaa, the Minister Delegate to the Budget and President of the 2030 World Cup Committee, presented a detailed report on the progress of the Moroccan bid.

The minister reviewed the key stages of the candidacy process, from the announcement of the joint bid with Spain and Portugal in March 2023, to the publication of the FIFA evaluation report at the end of November. This report, which gave an "exceptional" rating to the tripartite file, places the candidacy in a good position to win the organization of the World Cup at the next extraordinary FIFA congress.

To ensure an organization worthy of the event, an expanded committee will be set up, including representatives of civil society and African expertise.

Several strategic projects will be accelerated, such as the modernization of stadiums, the expansion of airports in the six host cities, the strengthening of road infrastructure and the development of hotel, medical and telecommunications infrastructure.

Here are the ongoing projects:

• Upgrading of stadiums;
• Widening and renovation of airports in the six host cities;
• Strengthening of road infrastructure and densification of intra-urban networks;
• Launch of an integrated territorial development program that extends beyond the host cities of the World Cup matches.
• Development of hotel and commercial infrastructure;
• Strengthening and modernization of the medical offer;
• Development and modernization of telecommunications networks;
• Launch of a large-scale training program to strengthen the skills of young people.
