Morocco Advances National Preference Law to Boost Local SMEs in Public Contracts

The issue of national preference is resurfacing in the Moroccan parliament. The last monthly session of this session will be devoted to this crucial question for the recovery strategy, with several actions designed by the deputies, in order to provide the principle of national preference with a permanent legal framework, ensuring SMEs the right of access to markets.
The priority is to define during this stage the regulatory framework of a specific legislation that ensures full activation of the mechanisms planned for this year 2021, says Les Inspirations Eco, specifying that it is a question of providing the principle of national preference with a permanent legal framework ensuring SMEs the right of access to markets, and which will have to introduce a change at the level of the specifications relating to suppliers.
Several mechanisms currently ensure a competitive advantage to national companies, mainly the need to explain in writing the reasons for resorting to imported products, with prior agreement required from the Finance Department for all contracts worth more than 100 million DH, the media points out.
