Morocco Advances Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail Project with Land Acquisition Decree

The government of Aziz Akhannouch has just taken a step towards the realization of the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line. Planned in the Rail Maroc 2040 plan, this project represents a strategic challenge in the continuation of the development of the high-speed network in Morocco.
The Moroccan government is active in the realization of the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line. Its head Aziz Akhannouch signed a decree dated November 22 authorizing the Minister of Equipment and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, to proceed "with the necessary expropriations for public utility in order to clear the land required for the realization of this project," according to Maghreb-Intelligence, specifying that this decree came into force on November 23 after its publication in the Official Bulletin.
450 km long, the Kenitra-Marrakech railway line will connect the major Moroccan cities, thereby ensuring a quality service for passengers using the rail network. Composed of three lots including Kenitra-Ain-Sebaa of 150 km (lot 1), Ain-Sebaa-Nouaceur of 130 km (lot 2) and Nouaceur-Marrakech of 212 km (lot 3), this project will also develop the kingdom’s rail network. The French company Egis has been entrusted with the project management assistance.
This project should be effective before 2030, to coincide with the opening of the football World Cup that Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
