Morocco Adopts New Frequency Plan, Paving Way for 5G Networks

Morocco is preparing for the 5G revolution. In this sense, a new National Frequency Plan (PNF) has been adopted.

Morocco is making the 5G revolution a priority. It has adopted a new National Frequency Plan (PNF) that repeals and replaces the one of March 15, 2018, reports Les Inspirations Éco. This plan is focused on the relevant decisions contained in the final acts of the last World Radiocommunication Conference of 2019 (WRC-19), it is specified. The main changes concern the identification of additional frequency bands for international mobile telecommunications, including future 5G networks, it is noted.

What are the advances of the new plan? We can mention, among others, the establishment of conditions and regulations for the operation of earth stations in motion, in order to ensure connectivity on board aircraft, ships and trains; the introduction of nanosatellites to promote innovation and research; the implementation of technical and regulatory measures for the introduction of a new satellite system in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) or the identification of additional frequency bands for systems placed on high-altitude platforms, but also to facilitate telecommunications in rural and isolated areas, by providing broadband access.

Current and potential users of frequencies will gain visibility thanks to this new plan. They will also have the possibility to make their choices in terms of frequency bands to be exploited, the new PNF 2021 being a reference document that specifies, for each band, the corresponding radiocommunication services, authorized at the national level.
