Morocco Achieves Self-Sufficiency in Poultry Meat Production, Study Shows

Morocco can now cover its poultry meat needs throughout the national territory. This is the result of a recent study on the subject.
The main achievements of the 2011-2020 poultry meat sector program contract have exceeded the set objectives, the same study indicates. They have now reached 31.6 billion dirhams in turnover, 12.9 billion in investment, 495,000 jobs including 150,000 direct and 345,000 indirect, the same source specifies.
According to Agrimaroc, these results were recently unveiled during an awareness and information day for poultry farmers and wholesalers and retailers.
With a production of 720,000 tons of poultry meat, 6.3 billion consumption eggs, Morocco is able to ensure 100% coverage of poultry product consumption needs, the same source indicates. This production also translates into a per capita consumption per year of 20.5 kg of poultry meat and 188 consumption eggs, supports the same source.
The poultry meat sector is the primary source of animal protein in Morocco. As such, it constitutes a successful organizational model. The results for the 2017-2018 season testify to this. Compared to 2017, the production volume of poultry meat recorded a growth of 4.3%. On the egg side, the number also improved by 300 million units.
