Morocco Accuses Algeria of Undermining UN Cannabis Reclassification Efforts

Chakib Al khayari, co-founder of the collective for the therapeutic and industrial use of Kif, says that Algeria tried to sabotage Morocco’s efforts for the legalization of cannabis. At the UN, the eastern neighbor had voted against the removal of the product from the list of toxic substances.
"It must be known that Morocco’s vote was decisive for this withdrawal. On the other hand, and against all expectations, Algeria voted against, even though this country has legalized cannabis for therapeutic and industrial use since 2004. Algeria also legalizes the cultivation of other plants such as opium and coca, even though the country does not grow any of these plants. The Algerian vote at the UN is completely contradictory to their legislation. Their only goal was to sabotage Morocco’s efforts on this issue. It’s unhealthy. Fortunately, Morocco prevailed," said Chakib Al khayari, in an interview with Maroc Hebdo.
According to him, Morocco’s vote was decisive for the withdrawal of cannabis from the list of toxic substances. He congratulates the government for initiating bill 13-21 on the legal use of cannabis. In the eyes of the co-founder of the collective for the therapeutic and industrial use of Kif, this initiative is very important for the northern region and the farmers who, for years, lived in fear, terror and denial. "We have been campaigning since 2007, within the Moroccan Collective for the Therapeutic and Industrial Use of Kif, for this legalization to materialize. Today, the first legislative step has been taken and we can only rejoice," he said.
On Thursday, the Council of Government proceeded to the adoption of bill 13-21 on the legal use of cannabis. This bill regulates the cultivation of cannabis, import and export activities, processing and sales.
