Morocco Accused of Economic Blockade as Melilla Border Customs Remain Closed

Vox has deplored the maintenance by Morocco of the closure of the commercial customs of Melilla, which should have been reactivated since last January, according to the agreements concluded between the two countries in April 2022. The far-right party denounces the economic blockade of Morocco towards the autonomous city.
Vox has denounced Morocco’s attempts to suffocate Melilla, recalling the kingdom’s prevarications concerning the reopening of the commercial customs it unilaterally closed in August 2018. Rafael Ginel, vice-president of Vox Melilla and candidate for the Senate, points out the lack of reciprocity at the land borders of Ceuta and Melilla with Morocco, noting that "the commercial customs and the traveler regime, as we knew them, have not resumed" due to the kingdom’s policy of economic blockade towards the two autonomous cities, reports El Faro de Melilla.
Morocco is delaying the opening of commercial customs with the sole purpose of continuing to "drown the economy of Ceuta and Melilla in its hybrid strategy of annexation," explains Vox Melilla, blaming the government of Pedro Sanchez for always yielding to Morocco’s pressure. The far-right formation intends to fight "so that this situation of total submission to Morocco changes" in order to revive the companies and the economy of Melilla.
