Moroccans Spend 2 Billion Dirhams on Smartphones as Market Booms

Two billion dirhams were spent by Moroccans in the second quarter of 2019 for the acquisition of smartphones.
This amount, according to La Vie éco, is proof of the overall growth of the market in 2019, flooded however by low-cost products from China.
According to the same source, the presence of the low-end segment, which concerns 35% of the potential demand, does not affect the choice of the premium segment, around which a fierce battle is being waged.
The same media notes, however, that this segment represents 25% of the market for devices priced above 6,000-9,000 dirhams.
According to comments from industry specialists reported by La Vie éco, Samsung remains the undisputed leader of the market with 25 million Galaxy users in Morocco.
Huawei also seems to be making its mark. Just between January and April 2019, its market share increased from 15.8% to 20.3%, the same source specifies.
For now, the smartphone will continue to ensure the replacement of old mobile phones through lower-weight devices.
At the level of high-end mobile phones, with innovations becoming increasingly rare, it is brand loyalty that will have to prevail when it comes to renewing one’s smartphone, the same media points out.
