Moroccans Lead in New Belgian Citizenship Grants, Migration Center Reports

Over the whole of 2021, nearly 40,000 people obtained Belgian nationality, a slight increase compared to 2020, according to the federal migration center. Among them, Moroccans represent 9% and are at the top of the accepted applications.
In its activity report for last year, the center revealed the number and profile of people who have applied for and obtained Belgian nationality. There is a slight increase in the number of accepted applications, as evidenced by the figures.
According to the document, precisely 39,448 people acquired Belgian nationality in 2021, compared to 34,441 people in 2020 and 40,588 people in 2019. Significantly, Moroccans are still the most numerous to obtain Belgian nationality, with 9% of accepted applications, it is specified.
Behind Morocco, we find Syria with also 9% of accepted applications, followed by Romania with 5%. Finally, we find Iraq (5%) and Afghanistan (4%), the same source points out.
