Prince Moulay Hicham Wins Heavy Damages Against Moroccan YouTuber
Moroccan courts have condemned YouTuber Mohamed Reda Taoujni for defamation against Prince Moulay Hicham. He faces substantial financial penalties after spreading unfounded accusations on social media.
The court of first instance in Rabat has ruled. The content creator must pay a fine of 100,000 dirhams and provide 600,000 dirhams in civil damages to the prince. The court also ordered the removal of the incriminating YouTube video and publication of the judgment. In this online content, the videographer made accusations damaging the plaintiff’s honor, notably evoking alleged financial transfers worth several million dollars.

Faced with these claims lacking material evidence, Moulay Hicham chose to pursue justice as an ordinary citizen, entrusting the case to attorney Abderrahim Jamaï. While reaffirming that freedom of expression remains a "fundamental pillar," the plaintiff insisted it be exercised in respect of ethics and "far from defamation."

In accordance with the prince’s defense wishes, which had argued against any imprisonment, the court limited itself to financial penalties. The judgment should now be subject to appeal.
