Moroccan YouTuber Jailed for Unauthorized Drone Use at Stadium

Four months in prison and a fine of 41,000 dirhams. This is the sentence handed down by the court of first instance in Rabat against the promoter of a YouTube channel, prosecuted for illegal use of a drone and dissemination of information without authorization.
Without obtaining authorization, the defendant deployed his drone inside the Moulay Abdellah stadium where renovation work is underway. He then broadcast a report in which he provided an update on the progress of the work and announced a completion date for the construction site.
Given the facts, the Rabat court sentenced him for illegal use of a drone and for disseminating such information that falls under the discretion of the competent authorities.
This decision is part of the measures taken to combat the dissemination of false information by certain news sites and digital platforms, thus violating citizens’ right to credible information.
