Moroccan Youth Drowns After Cliff Jump in Spanish River Near Zaragoza

A young man of Moroccan origin died drowned in Peñaflor, near Zaragoza, in northeastern Spain. He had just jumped off a 12-meter rock.
The young man’s body was found on Friday, in the vicinity of the Peña de Cuervo, a bathing area of the Gállego river, near the rural district of Peñaflor (Zaragoza). Although he did not know how to swim, he had jumped into the river from the approximately 12-meter high rock to cool off.
Arrived in September 2018, the victim, of Moroccan origin, had left the program for foreign minors less than a month ago and was under the guardianship of the Aragon government.
After his jump, the young Moroccan disappeared. His two friends searched for him in vain. They finally reported his disappearance to the police. In the afternoon of Friday, the Guardia Civil station in Villanueva de Gállego was informed of the discovery of a body in this river, which was transferred to the Aragon Institute of Forensic Medicine. An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of his death.
According to the legislation in force in Spain, bathing in recreational areas is allowed but not regulated. The responsibility therefore lies with the bather.
