Moroccan World Cup Star Yassine Bounou Commits to Sevilla FC Amid Transfer Rumors

Courted by several clubs, and announced on the way out, Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, one of the architects of the exceptional and historic journey of the Lions of the Atlas at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, remains loyal to his club, Sevilla FC.
Yassine Bounou, whose contract expires in 2025, prefers to remain loyal to his club rather than leaving for financial or sporting reasons. While Spanish media claim that he was not satisfied with being benched by Sevilla’s new coach, José Luis Mendilibar, who replaced him with Serbian Marko Dmirtovic for the Liga matches but aligns him for the Europa League matches, the goalkeeper reaffirmed his loyalty to Sevilla FC on Thursday, May 11, after the Europa League semi-final match against Juventus. "Sevilla FC has given me a lot and I do my best to give back what it has given me," he told beIN Sports. "I’m not thinking about anything else. It’s a great team and I’ll do my best to give it the required level."
In February, he had already explained that he had chosen to stay despite the interest shown by several big clubs after his brilliant participation in the 2022 World Cup with the Moroccan national team. "There have been discussions with some teams, but [with] my agent, I didn’t feel it was the right time to go tell Monchi [Sevilla’s football director] that I had to leave... I didn’t feel it," Bounou had told AS.
"Given the situation and our position, I didn’t want to leave at a time like this," he had added. Sevilla FC has not had a good season. The club is currently in 11th place.
