Moroccan Workers Lead Non-EU Social Security Enrollment in Spain, Topping 250,000

With around 250,000 affiliates, Moroccans represent the largest community of non-EU foreigners contributing to social security in Spain.
According to statistics published earlier this week by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, Moroccans are followed by the Chinese (104,806), Ecuadorians (72,325), Colombians (63,026) and finally Bolivians.
In total, just over 1.98 million people were affiliated as of the end of last November to the social security system, up 7.8% compared to the figures for last year (or 144,000 more).
Of all the foreigners registered with the Spanish social security system, some 1,165,564 people are from non-EU countries and 815,517 are from European Union countries, according to the Spanish Ministry of Labor.
As of July 1st last year, Spain had 692,379 Moroccans, compared to 682,022 on January 1st of the same year.
