Moroccan Workers Lead Non-EU Social Security Contributors in Spain

With around 260,000 affiliates, Moroccans represent the largest community of non-EU foreigners contributing to social security in Spain.
According to statistics published earlier this week by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, Moroccans are ahead of Romanians (347,033 members) and surpass Italians (115,771), Chinese (104,183), Ecuadorians (72,025), British (67,880), Colombians (65,234), Bulgarians (61,887), and finally Portuguese (53,400).
The Ministry of Employment welcomed the addition of 153,144 new foreign affiliates in March, with an affiliation increase of 8.17% compared to the same period in 2018.
In detail, 1,187,001 are registered under the general scheme, 332,096 under the self-employed scheme and 4,329 under the maritime scheme, it is further specified.
According to the figures of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the number of Moroccans established in Spain is 812,412 people as of January 1st last year, up 5.4% compared to the 2018 figures.
