Moroccan Worker Dies in Ceuta, Body Repatriated to Grieving Family

Abdelilah is one of the Moroccan workers who go to Ceuta daily to earn a living. Originally from Fnideq, this mason died in the autonomous city following an illness. His body was repatriated to Morocco on Wednesday.
Without a job and without means to support his family after the border closure in 2019, Abdelilah resolved to swim to Ceuta in May 2021, leaving his two sons and his pregnant wife in Fnideq. He will never see them again. The Moroccan, who worked hard to send money to his family, passed away from an illness. His body was repatriated to Morocco on Wednesday, reports El Faro de Ceuta.
The Al Qadr funeral home, which carried out the repatriation of the body in collaboration with the deceased’s relatives, covered a large part of the expenses related to the operation. Abdelillah died in Ceuta without being able to hug his daughter because he could not return to Morocco due to the visa requirement imposed on Moroccans since the reopening of the borders.
The Moroccan will be buried with dignity in Morocco and his loved ones will at least be able to pay him a final tribute. Several Moroccans who died in Ceuta during the border closure period were not so lucky. They were buried in the cemeteries of Sidi Embarek and Santa Catalina.
