Moroccan Woman Swims to Freedom from Spanish Enclave Amid Border Closure

It was by swimming that a Moroccan national blocked in Ceuta since the closure of the borders, joined the Moroccan shore. A perilous adventure that earned her the compassion of the Spanish border guards.
A Moroccan woman successfully, with determination and courage, reached the beach of Fnideq on Tuesday evening, to the amazement of bathers and border guards.
Having failed to climb the large wire fence, the woman tried, this time successfully, to go around it by swimming. Two members of the Guardia Civil had even given her a life jacket.
For 6 months, dozens of Moroccans, including women, have been desperately waiting to be repatriated to the kingdom. Both in Ceuta and Melilla, the sanitary conditions in which the latter live have become more than alarming.
