Moroccan Woman Sentenced to 8 Years for Infanticide After Abandonment

The fruit of an extramarital affair, the female baby was not meant, according to the mother, to live any longer. She strangled it at birth, after being abandoned by all her loved ones.
"I was under pressure when I strangled him," she declared before the judge, who sentenced her to 8 years in prison.
Abandoned by the father, who seems to have left the country, and then by her parents who evoke a dishonor, the young mother finally committed the unthinkable, once her pregnancy came to term.
Devastated by the betrayal of her companion with whom she had spent two years, she was left to her own devices by her own parents, before seeking refuge with a friend. Not for long, as her belly was becoming more and more visible.
Rejected by everyone, she finally gave in to discouragement. Before the court, she declared with great bitterness: "I was alone in the world". Once freed from her secret, following a natural childbirth, she decided to kill her newborn by strangling it to death.
