Moroccan Woman Faces Legal Consequences for Evicting Husband from Marital Home

The court of first instance in Marrakech sentenced a woman to two months in prison with probation and a fine of 500 dirhams for having expelled her husband from the marital home.
The fact is unusual in Moroccan society. In Marrakech, a husband expelled by his wife from the marital home filed a complaint against her with the prosecutor, reports Assabah. The latter, having tried in vain to reconcile the two spouses, referred the case to the court. Before the judges, the woman remained categorical and did not accept that her husband join the marital home.
The court sentenced her to two months in prison with probation and a fine of 500 dirhams and to pay 2,000 dirhams in damages to her husband.
