Moroccan Singer Cheikha Trax Gets Suspended Sentence for Violating COVID-19 Restrictions

The Court of First Instance in Marrakech handed down its verdict on Friday, March 19, in the Cheikha Trax case. The Moroccan singer was prosecuted at large for non-compliance with the state of health emergency.
Moroccan singer Cheikha Trax (Fatima Zahra, her civil name) was sentenced to one month in prison with a suspended sentence and a fine of 1000 DH. The Court of First Instance in Marrakech handed down the same sentence to her mother.
On January 14, while celebrating her engagement to a Gulf prince, in the presence of dozens of guests at her home in the Riad Salam district in Gueliz, the Marrakech police elements descended on the premises. The celebration had been interrupted. This descent followed a video of the artist’s wedding party broadcast live on Facebook.
The police had then arrested and fined about 37 guests. They were released after paying a fine of 300 DH for violating the state of health emergency. As for the singer and her mother, they were taken to the police station, before being released and prosecuted at large for non-compliance with the state of health emergency decreed in Morocco, in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
