Moroccan Widows in Europe Can Receive Their Pensions Without Returning to Morocco
Widows living in France, Belgium or elsewhere in Europe can have a survivor’s pension paid in Morocco transferred to them. The Foreign Exchange Office authorizes this for the beneficiaries of Moroccan retirees, provided they submit two documents to the bank.

A woman who loses her husband after he has worked in Morocco can continue receiving a Moroccan pension while living in Europe, provided the pension fund recognizes her entitlement. Foreign exchange regulations then allow the pension to be transferred to her country of residence, without requiring her to travel to Morocco for this purpose.

The Foreign Exchange Office confirms that pensions paid by Moroccan public or private bodies can be transferred to retirees and their beneficiaries who permanently reside abroad. Widows receiving a survivor’s pension are covered by this provision.
This option is also available to other beneficiaries to whom a Moroccan fund pays a pension, including certain children of deceased retirees. Eligibility for the benefit and its amount depend on the pension scheme to which the deceased was affiliated.
Two documents needed to receive the pension in Europe
Article 168 of the General Instruction on Foreign Exchange Transactions 2026 specifies the documents that must be submitted to the bank handling the transfer. The first is a document issued by the paying body stating the amount of the pension: a payment statement, certificate or transfer order.
The second is a certificate of residence abroad issued in the beneficiary’s name, or an equivalent document. This document must be renewed every year. The transfer is authorized up to the amount certified by the Moroccan pension fund.
The process therefore has two steps: obtain recognition of the right to a survivor’s pension from the relevant pension body, then submit the documents required by the bank to transfer it. The Moroccan Pension Fund has a service dedicated to applications for beneficiaries’ pensions.

A widow who lives permanently in France can therefore receive a Moroccan pension without having to return regularly to the Kingdom to collect the payments. This foreign-source pension must also be taken into account in her French tax filings, in accordance with the rules that apply to her situation.
