Moroccan Wedding Costs Soar: Experts Reveal Price Disparities and Cultural Traditions

Many Moroccans prefer to get married during the summer season. But, marriage has a cost that is too high for some and not very expensive for others.
Weddings are not alike in the Kingdom. There are clear differences between them. And the experts in the wedding ceremony do not hide it, reports Hespress.
Lalla Aïcha, who has 20 years of experience, says: "For wealthy families, the girl is entitled to 3 or 4 outfits, some of which represent her origins. In this case, we have the right to a fassie, tachelhite, soussi, sahraoui outfit, etc., while for the men, it is generally jabador, djellaba and suit to conclude. Men do not pay much attention to these details, especially the young ones."
Since any wedding requires logistics, the expenses vary. Indeed, the groom’s family can cover all the related costs or the two families take care of it. "The bride’s family pays its share of the tables, while the groom’s family does the same. The aim is to avoid problems regarding the number of guests in the two camps, because it is a real battlefield sometimes," explains Lalla Aïcha to the same source.
Alongside, some families choose to do things differently. They prefer receptions in hotels, which generally last a maximum of 3 hours. Conversely, other families organize nothing at all. The choice is left to the future spouses to do as they wish.
To request the services of a competent negafa, you have to spend at least 30,000 dirhams. But a good orchestra can also offer the same service for 5000-7000 dirhams. The 3-hour maximum performance of Lebanese artists costs 100,000 dirhams. As for renting a limousine, a luxury 4x4, you have to plan between 6000 and 9000 dirhams.
With all these expenses, getting married becomes expensive for many aspiring people in the Kingdom. Worse, "some families go into debt to please their children, and keep face in front of others," laments Lalla Aïcha, still quoted by Hespress.
