Moroccan University Cancels Israeli Academic’s Visit Amid Student Protests

Faced with an unprecedented outcry, the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has decided to cancel the conference of the Israeli academic Michael Bronstein. This decision comes after several days of student demonstrations.
The students expressed their firm opposition to Bronstein’s visit, accusing him of supporting the Israeli occupation. In a statement, they denounced what they consider a "total ignorance" of their positions. A petition signed by more than 1300 students was also launched, demanding the severing of ties with Israeli academic institutions.

The UM6P justified its choice by "recent developments", a formulation that leaves little doubt about the nature of the pressures exerted. The students, for their part, see it as a "partial victory" in their fight against academic normalization with Israel.
