Moroccan Groups Sue Youth for Israel Visit Amid Gaza Conflict

Moroccan organizations have filed a lawsuit against a group of young people who visited Israel in early July, in the midst of the Israeli bombing of Gaza. This visit, organized by the Maroc Coexistence Association, sparked a heated controversy, perceived as an attempt at normalization with Israel during the escalation of the conflict.
The organizations behind the complaint, the National Action Group for Palestine and the Moroccan Observatory for the Fight against Normalization, accuse the participants of complicity with the Israeli occupation. The visit was also widely condemned on social media and even provoked a petition from students to ban the participants from returning to the campus of Al Akhawayn University.
The context of this visit is particularly sensitive, with pro-Palestinian demonstrations multiplying in Morocco and growing diplomatic tensions between Rabat and Tel Aviv.
Despite the controversy, the participants in the visit defend their approach. They claim that their trip was part of a program on the Holocaust and that they were "very well received" in Israel. They also emphasize that they had "fruitful" exchanges on topics such as the Moroccan Sahara and regional cooperation.
