Moroccan Trucker Caught in Spain with $100,000 in Stolen Electronics Bound for Morocco

The Civil Guard of Huétor Tájar (Granada) arrested a 38-year-old Moroccan truck driver in possession of a large number of tablets, laptops and other stolen devices worth more than 100,000 euros that he was trying to illegally bring into Morocco.

The Civil Guards of Granada were alerted on February 1st by a woman about the theft in Barcelona of her bag containing various objects, including a computer and a tablet worth a total of 3,000 euros. She reported in her complaint that the tablet had a geolocation application, which allowed the agents to locate the device near a service station in the town of Huétor Tájar, reports Granada Digital.

A patrol was dispatched to the site and proceeded to check the license plates of several trucks and vehicles parked there, before coming across the suspect’s truck with a Moroccan license plate. The latter was sleeping inside the cab, which the agents thoroughly searched, discovering the laptops, mobile phones, tablets and other electronic devices he was hiding in the truck.

When questioned about the origin and ownership of these devices, the Moroccan truck driver could not provide a convincing answer to the agents, simply stating that they had been given to him in Barcelona to be transported to Morocco. The woman’s tablet that had been reported stolen was among the lot, leading the agents to arrest the driver on charges of theft.

Efforts are continuing to identify the owners of these stolen items in Barcelona. In total, the Civil Guard has 95 mobile phones, 45 laptops, 14 tablets, a projector, a drone, a camera lens, a television, a game console steering wheel, a video projector and several pairs of boots and sports shoes, with a total estimated value of more than 100,000 euros.
