Moroccan Tricycle Driver Sentenced to 20 Years for Injuring Police Officer in Salé

The driver of a tricycle who injured a police officer last year was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Rabat Court of Appeal. His accomplice was sentenced to 10 years with civil liability. He will have to compensate the victim.
The Rabat Court of Appeal handed down its decision on Thursday, September 16, 2021. The events had taken place on June 13, 2020 in the Hay Salam neighborhood of Salé. The driver of an unregistered tricycle and his companion, who were illegally transporting construction materials, had refused to comply with a police patrol in charge of checking the health emergency measures in the city.
They had opposed the control and had dragged a police officer for several tens of meters, forcing another checkpoint, located on Zarbia Avenue. As a result, they had caused injuries to the police officer. He had been transferred to the hospital and the provincial judicial police service of the city of Salé had opened an investigation to arrest the tricycle driver and his companion.
