Moroccan Tourists Boost Sales at Malaga’s Designer Outlet Mall

The rush of Moroccans to the Costa del Sol during the summer benefited the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet shopping center in Malaga, which recorded a 6% increase in visitors and an 11% increase in sales at the end of the summer season compared to the previous year.
Located next to the Plaza Mayor, the McArthurGlen shopping center in Malaga continues to attract many foreign visitors during the summer. This year, a significant number of tourists from Morocco, the Middle East, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States visited the center from January to August, an increase of 6% compared to the same period the previous year. Sales, on the other hand, saw a 13% increase, according to La Opinion de Malaga.
"Once again, McArthurGlen Malaga has once again broken its own record, exceeding six million visitors between January and August. These data reassure us on our path and show that we have consolidated ourselves in the province of Malaga as an important economic engine in the region," explained Javier Mendizábal, the director of McArthurGlen Malaga. The center wants to continue to offer products "at competitive prices all year round and without leaving the capital," he added.
Last summer, five new fashion and food brands opened in the center. These are Ferragamo, G-Star, Ben & Jerry’s and Havaianas, which started their activities in July, and Hoff in August. Volcom, an American sports brand of skateboard, surf and snowboard clothing, will open in the coming months.
"These new openings, as well as the rest of our already consolidated offer, have been very well received by the public. August was the best month since our opening in terms of visitor numbers and sales thanks, among other things, to the long weekend of August 15 and the increase in air links. Many of our companies such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera, Adidas, Asics, BOSS, Under Armour or Coach, have achieved record sales since our opening in 2020," said Mendizábal.
