Moroccan Tomato Exports Surge as European Demand Remains Strong Despite Pandemic

The Moroccan tomato is very present on European markets despite the health crisis related to the coronavirus. The export campaign has started off with a bang.
The first shipments testify to a good start to the Moroccan tomato export campaign to Europe. Tomato export prices have seen a relative increase. These prices currently range between 0.8 and 1 euro per kg exported, say the professionals, members of the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters.
The exported kg cost 1.5 euros per kg depending on the fruit caliber during the first week of the export campaign, they added. A surge in prices that is explained by strong demand and a very limited supply due to delays in plantings caused by the climate of uncertainty due to the health crisis. "My production does not exceed 20% of what I usually harvest at this time, hence an overheating of prices. These prices have never been seen at this time," confided to La Vie éco a farmer.
