Moroccan Theater Union Decries Lack of Government Aid for Artists Amid COVID-19 Crisis

The health crisis related to covid-19 has severely affected the cultural sector and its players in Morocco. Massoud Bouhssine, president of the Moroccan Union of Theater Professionals, deplores the government’s inaction in the face of their precarious situation.
The Moroccan Union of Theater Professionals bitterly notes that the government has taken no measures to assist the vulnerable fringe of the country’s artists since the health crisis came into effect, reports Assabah. In addition to the subsidies and public aid granted by the Ministry of Culture to finance theatrical productions, Massoud Bouhssine affirms that no financial support has been planned.
According to him, the government has still not responded to the requests of artists and other cultural sector employees. While several neighboring countries have taken measures to support artist-authors whose incomes have fallen due to the health crisis, Morocco has chosen inaction, he points out.
