Moroccan Teen’s Suicide Highlights Forced Marriage Crisis

It is a very sad story that happened on Saturday in Stehat, a village near Chefchaouen. A 17-year-old teenager committed suicide by hanging, while she was in the midst of preparing for her wedding.
A few days before the big celebration, the body of the young high school student was found lifeless by her parents. Refusing her forced marriage, she decided to end her life by committing suicide in her room.
The reasons, let alone the circumstances, of this suicide have not yet been determined. For now, the parents, still in shock, have not provided any testimony to the investigators.
Pending the results of the investigation, the remains have been deposited at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
