Moroccan Teen’s Family Protests Lenient Sentences in Gang Rape Case

The family of Fatima Zahra, a 15-year-old Moroccan teenager from Tata and victim of a gang rape, denounces the insignificant one-year prison sentences handed down against the perpetrators.
The young girl was raped by the owner of a grocery store and four other men. She became pregnant after this assault and gave birth, her uncle, Abdeslam, told Hespress, denouncing the insignificant sentences handed down against four of the perpetrators of this gang rape. A fifth suspect fled to Dakhla and is not being sought by the police who have only opened a local investigation, he laments.
"The young girl hears all kinds of insulting remarks in the village and at school and cannot take care of the baby. Her parents and grandmother are sick and cannot help her [...]. She is devastated," Abdeslam explained.
The family of the fugitive suspect would have contacted the teenager’s family to "ask" them to withdraw the complaint, a request rejected by the latter who demands justice. The victim’s family would also have received financial proposals to prevent the realization of DNA tests to determine the identity of the child’s father.
