Moroccan Teen in Critical Condition After Gang Violence in Spanish Resort Town

Mohamed, a 17-year-old Moroccan, was seriously injured during violent clashes between youth gangs that occurred a week ago in Magaluf (Balearic Islands). He is still receiving care in the hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.
With a blood clot in the head and a fractured jaw, the young man had to undergo emergency surgery. "I was on my way to the hotel with my friends when the Civil Guard called me. My sister-in-law had been assaulted, so I went to see her to comfort her. Then I don’t know what happened, I got hit and woke up in the hospital. I was told that the young man who assaulted me was arrested. I didn’t know him at all," he explains to Ultima Hora.
His parents, visiting Morocco at the time of the incident, took the first available flight after learning the news. His older sister, who is at his bedside, recounts that Mohamed had gone to a birthday party in Magaluf with friends. "They had booked a hotel to spend the night. I started to worry on Sunday morning because he didn’t come back and didn’t answer my phone calls. I called his friends and they told me something had happened. Then I got a call from the hospital," she details.
The incident occurred during violent clashes that broke out on Saturday night in Magaluf. A young man of Romanian origin attacked Mohamed from behind before fleeing, leaving him unconscious and seriously injured. Mohamed was rushed to a medical center. According to several witnesses, the Moroccan hit his head when he fell to the ground after the attack. Doctors confirm that he received a violent blow to the head and that he "had a clot and a broken jaw".
"After two days, the clot grew and the doctors decided to operate on him urgently," adds Mohamed’s sister, assuring that "for the moment, he is more or less doing well, but remains under control." The aggressor of Mohamed, as well as ten people, including eight men and two women, were arrested that night. They were all released later. The investigation is ongoing.
