Moroccan Teacher and Lover Arrested for Alleged Adultery Near Marrakech

A teacher and her lover were arrested in flagrant adultery in the teacher’s official residence, located in the El Askar douar in the Marrakech region.
The report was given by the inhabitants of the douar who noticed the presence of the lover in the teacher’s residence. They then surrounded the house and contacted the Royal Gendarmerie, reports the local site kech24.
The gendarmes went to the scene and arrested the two individuals. They were placed in custody for the needs of the investigation.
In Morocco, adultery is punishable by a sentence of one month to one year in prison for the one who maintains extramarital relations. But these two articles (490 and 491 of the Penal Code) are only applied in exceptional cases or as aggravating factors of a sentence.
A reform of the Family Code (Moudawana), the conclusions of which were submitted to King Mohammed VI a few weeks ago, should definitively end these prison sentences.
