Moroccan Taxi Drivers Flout Coronavirus Safety Rules, Overcharge Passengers

As part of the preventive policy implemented by the Moroccan authorities to curb the Coronavirus epidemic, a battery of measures had been announced on Monday, March 16, by the Ministry of the Interior, aimed at better managing public transport, all categories combined.
Among these provisions is the reduction in the number of passengers in large taxis from 6 to 3 people. According to the testimony of users, the majority of taxi owners have derogated from the rules, in total disregard of the safety measures.
In Casablanca, Rabat and Salé, the owners subject the users to a despicable blackmail, forcing them to choose between the double fare or the trip with 6 passengers.
While calling on the authorities to ensure the implementation of the new rules, the victims of these blackmail deplore the lack of solidarity and mutual aid shown by the taxi owners.
