Moroccan Taekwondo Survivor Qualifies for Tokyo Olympics

Oumaima El Bouchti beat a Senegalese taekwondo athlete on Saturday, February 22, thus validating her qualification for the Tokyo Olympics.
Oumaima El Bouchti, the survivor of a drowning that caused the death of six young athletes at the level of Oued Cherrat in 2015, will participate in the 2020 Olympic Games, reports Assabah. This athlete, who plays for the Nour Benslimane club, won the fight against a Senegalese taekwondo athlete in the semi-finals of the -49kg category, during the African taekwondo qualifiers. This sporting event took place from February 22 to 24 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat.
Mustapha El Amrani, coach of the Moroccan taekwondo star, who is also president of the Nour Benslimane association, is happy with the athlete’s performance. Oumaima El Bouchti won the African Championship, and is ranked third in the world ranking. The athlete is thus expected at the 2020 Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from July 24 to August 9.
