Moroccan Surgeons Successfully Separate Conjoined Twins in Rabat Hospital

Good news from the surgical emergency department of the Children’s Hospital in Rabat. The two-month-old Siamese twins who were separated last Thursday are doing well, according to Prof. Fouad Taibi.
Pediatric surgeon Professor Fouad Taibi supervised the operation. "The Siamese twins, who were connected by the abdomen, liver and lower chest, are in good health, four days after the surgical procedure they underwent."
He also stressed that the twins’ resuscitation protocol has been completed, and they will be returned to their parents on Tuesday or Wednesday. As for the reasons why the twins were not immediately separated at birth, the doctor explained that they should grow a little in order to withstand such an operation.
"The surgical operation was carried out using existing technology at the hospital, allowing the liver to be separated successfully without a single drop of blood [...]. The same goes for the lower chest, which was separated without any problems at the pericardial level," he said proudly.
