Moroccan Stylist's Gender-Bending Fashion Choice Sparks Controversy at Film Festival

Internet users were shocked to see in a video that went viral on social media the photographer and stylist Othman Essahat proudly wearing a woman’s corset at the Marrakech International Film Festival.

The video, posted on X (formerly Twitter), sparked an avalanche of reactions from Internet users. Some believe that the stylist is not serious and that he is being provocative. The stylist assures that this is not the case and that his goal was not to "create a controversy" or to "make a buzz". "I didn’t expect it to happen like this... It’s true yes! It shocked a lot of people, but it’s fashion," he confides to H24 Info.

Other Internet users accused Othman Essahat of serving the pro-LGBTQIA+ propaganda. Allegations rejected by the stylist. "I don’t know why they are bothered by a man wearing a corset, since I always dress this way and I have a style that I have adopted and that belongs to me," he reacted. And he added: "I won’t deprive myself of living my life, wearing what I want and being comfortable in my skin. As long as I don’t harm anyone, it’s all good for me."

At the previous edition of the Festival, the stylist had worn a skirt. This year, he wore this corset, the result of his collaboration with stylist Mina Binebine. "We were able to create an outfit that represents me: sober, chic and with a lot of details, it reminded me of the outfits Lady Gaga wore in her American horror story series. Except that day, I was the ’horror story’ for some Moroccans, apparently," he said.
