Moroccan Study: Majority of Young Executives Embrace Telework Amid Pandemic

Several sectors have opted for telework since confinement was imposed. In detail, 56% of executives are teleworking, 24% are still working from the office, 6% are on paid leave and 6% are on unpaid leave. Also, 48.61% of teleworking executives are young people aged between 25 and 34, and 66% of those on unpaid leave are also young people.

The study showed that in terms of productivity, "54% of executives say they are productive in telework compared to 14% who do not think so". Unsurprisingly, it is the young people between 25 and 34 years old who say they are more comfortable with telework and give an average score of 3.66/5 to their level of productivity. This is not the case for executives aged 55 and over, who feel less comfortable with the tool and give an average score of 3.2/5 to their level of productivity, while explaining it by different reasons. Poor connection is at the top of the list, followed by child management and stress or anxiety, then demotivation or unsuitability of tools in 3rd position.

Even if a large number of executives think that telework is a tool to be avoided, 90% of Moroccans want to integrate it into their daily lives. 43% of executives are willing to work from home more than 3 days a week and almost 50% are willing to do so for a maximum of 1 or 2 days per week. Only 7% are not willing to work from home, the survey reveals.

It is obvious that "the confinement will have allowed the positions of some and others on this mode of work in Morocco to evolve". The ball is in the court of the legislator who has the possibility of voting on laws to determine the conditions under which telework could be done in Morocco.
