Moroccan Students Flock to France: Over 45,000 Enrolled Despite Growing Anglo-Saxon Appeal

France remains the top destination for Moroccan students, despite a growing preference for Anglo-Saxon countries in recent years. Some 45,162 Moroccan students enrolled in engineering and business schools in the country in 2023.
"Moroccans represent the largest student community in the Hexagon, with some 45,162 enrolled in 2023 (Campus France). The country remains the one that attracts the most Moroccans, despite a slight slowdown in recent years, particularly due to the Covid-19 pandemic and recent diplomatic tensions, followed by visa restrictions," writes L’Économiste.
The number of Moroccan students in France fell by 3% in 2022-2023 compared to the previous academic year, according to Campus France. However, France remains the preferred destination for young people aged 15-30, according to a survey conducted in 2022 by L’Economiste-Sunergia. It is followed by Canada, the United States and Spain.
"In terms of scientific and educational exchanges and collaborations as well, the share of the Hexagon is predominant, with several hundred inter-university agreements (nearly 476, according to the Ministry of Higher Education). Currently, a real dynamic is underway," the publication reports.
