In the Balearic Islands, especially in Ibiza and Formentera, the community of foreign students enrolled from kindergarten to high school, including vocational training, is largely made up of Moroccans, according to a recent study published by the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and the Guillem Foundation.
In 2021, 4,767 foreign students from 86 countries were enrolled in regular courses in Ibiza, compared to 360 foreign students from 28 countries in Formentera, another article in the same publication specifies, adding that nationals from 143 countries are enrolled in educational centers across the Balearic Islands.

Morocco is the leading country of origin for foreign students in the Balearic Islands, ahead of Italy, Colombia, Romania, Argentina, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Bulgaria and Ecuador. Moroccans represent a quarter of foreign students in Ibiza and a third in Formentera. In Ibiza, Moroccan students are the most numerous. They are followed by Romania, Italy, the United Kingdom, Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay, Germany, France and the Philippines.
Due to the health crisis, the number of foreign students has dropped significantly in the Balearic Islands, with 282 in Ibiza, 133 in Menorca and only 7 in Formentera. Paradoxically, it has increased by 82 in Majorca, the publication notes, also noting a decrease in the number of foreign students in public centers and an increase in private ones.
