Moroccan Student Sues Catholic School Over Hijab Ban, Sparking Religious Freedom Debate

A student has just filed a complaint against the Catholic school located in Kénitra that prohibited her from wearing the veil. The outcome of this case is expected in the very near future.
The facts occurred at the beginning of the week when the young girl, enrolled in the first year, was denied access to the course for wearing the veil. According to the administrative officials of the Catholic school, this veil is an infringement of the internal regulations of the establishment. For two days, the girl remained in the courtyard of the Catholic school. Worse, she was interrogated during which she was asked the reasons why she was wearing the veil. She told them that she wore the veil out of conviction.
The mother of the young girl was subjected to a sworn commitment so that the latter no longer wears the veil. According to Assabah, she would have called on a bailiff to note these abuses. According to the latest news, the case has been brought before the competent courts. The court of first instance of Kénitra should look into this case starting next Tuesday, the same source adds, noting that preventing a person from accessing school is depriving them of a constitutional right.
