Judge Orders Catholic School to Readmit Veiled Student After Ban

A young girl, in her first year of middle school, prevailed over her school, which had banned her from attending classes for wearing a veil. The decision was made on Wednesday by the court of first instance in Kénitra.
The tug-of-war between the parents of the veiled little girl and the Catholic school Don Bosco would have only lasted a few days. The child has been reinstated in her rights, and will be able to return to school immediately.
Enforceable, the investigating judge ordered the school to reintegrate the child under a penalty of 2,000 dirhams for each day of delay.
In early November, the administrative officials of the Catholic school subjected the little girl to a real interrogation, leaving her in the school courtyard for two days in a row. Forced to sign a sworn statement, her mother called on a bailiff to record the offense of infringement of a fundamental right.
