Moroccan Striker Boufal Suffers Early Injury Setback in Union SG Victory

Sébastien Pocognoli, coach of the Union Saint-Gilloise football team, gives news of the Moroccan striker Sofiane Boufal, who was stretchered off after 10 minutes during the confrontation between his club and Antwerp, which ended in a crushing victory for the Unionists (5-1).
Fate seems to be pursuing Sofiane Boufal. Entering the game on Sunday against Antwerp, he had to leave a few minutes later. The Moroccan striker was limping and was supported by the doctor and a physiotherapist, before even being laid on a stretcher. "At first glance, it seems to be a muscle problem in the hamstrings," Sébastien Pocognoli, coach of the Union Saint-Gilloise football team, believes. He will add: "It seems to be a muscle injury. He is affected at the level of the hamstrings. There are three stages in this case: contracture, elongation or tear. If it’s stage 1 or 2, there are prospects of seeing him again. If it’s a tear... it will be a race against time."
For the Unionists’ coach, it is still too early to draw any conclusions. According to him, Boufal will undergo a scan on Monday. "But it’s sure that we’re losing a player who was going to be very important for us in these playoffs. Who was going to bring something more. He was very disappointed, as were we, because we felt he was going to have a very good game tonight. [...] We can only hope that the injury is not too serious," he continued.
This is not the first time the Moroccan has been the victim of a serious injury. He is used to it. While he hoped to catch his breath this season by gradually regaining his level, he is caught up by this curse. The 31-year-old player has provided four assists in 24 games in all competitions this season.
