Moroccan Stars Boost FC Seville’s Popularity in North Africa

Thanks to Bounou, Munir and En-Nesyri, three Moroccan internationals, FC Seville has strengthened its presence in the Maghreb and among Moroccans on social networks. Already, 28% of its subscribers on its YouTube page come from this region, including 6% Moroccans.
Due to the remarkable presence of Morocco in the FC Seville team (goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, best goalkeeper in La Liga, striker Youssef En-Nesyri, second top scorer in La Liga after Luis Suárez, winger Oussama Idrissi, loaned to Ajax Amsterdam this winter, and Munir El Haddadi), the club’s fans in Morocco and the Maghreb have increased exponentially over the past year.
Since August 2018, a Seville fan club, Cap Spartel, has been set up in Tangier. It was inaugurated by the president of FC Seville, José Castro. "Moroccans represent 6% of our social media subscribers. It is the first Arab nation where Facebook works much better than Twitter," explained José Ángel Risco, Seville’s community manager for the past three years.
"The club’s social networks are also very followed in Algeria and Qatar, both in Spanish and Arabic," adds Risco, who informs that FC Seville is also considering reopening its accounts in French.
"Social networks play an important role in the internationalization of the club," he continued, stressing that FC Seville, with its "expansion policy," is now one of the best represented clubs in Africa.
