Moroccan Star Ziyech Faces $720,000 Tax Debt in Turkey After Galatasaray Stint

The name of Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech appears on an official list of athletes pursued by the Istanbul tax authorities.
A few months after his departure from Galatasaray during the winter transfer window for the 2023-2024 season, Hakim Ziyech is facing a tax debt of $720,000 in Turkey for the year 2024. According to a notice published on June 28, 2025, his name appears on an official list of athletes pursued by the Istanbul tax authorities. The debt includes $644,000 in principal taxes and about $76,000 in late penalties, all related to his time at the Istanbul club, details the Turkish media Milliyet.
The Istanbul tax authorities were unable to directly transmit the notice to Ziyech, as the player was not found at his address. The authorities have therefore published the notice online and in four national newspapers. In the absence of a response from the former Chelsea player within a month, the notice will be considered officially delivered under Turkish law.
According to Milliyet, Galatasaray officials have explained that Ziyech had signed a contract based on a net salary. In other words, the taxes are the responsibility of the club.
