Moroccan Star Hakimi Opens Up on Career, National Team Aspirations

In an interview with the Spanish sports newspaper AS, Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, who plays for Borussia Dortmund and scored a brace on the evening of Wednesday, October 2, in the Champions League against Slavia Prague (0-2), discussed his career with the Moroccan national team, his career in the Bundesliga and his prospects.
At 20 years old, Achraf Hakimi already has a formidable career. Even if the Moroccan international has not yet reached the pinnacle by winning a Ballon d’Or, he can boast 18 caps with the Moroccan national team and the title of Best Young African Player 2018.
Giving his opinion on his rich career, the player, from a modest family, was clear and precise. According to him, even if he tries to be realistic, he is taken as an example by others.
"I have played with great players, in Madrid and in Dortmund, and the fact that the Moroccan people see one of their compatriots in this situation can only please me," explained Hakimi.
In his remarks, he also returned to his choice between the Moroccan and Spanish selections. According to the Borussia Dortmund member, Morocco was his preference.
"It was my decision because I feel Moroccan and Muslim, for my family and for my roots." The player also mentioned the values transmitted to him by his father, of which he is really proud.
These values are nothing other than the work and sacrifices to be made to get what one wants. "So I try to work every day to try to realize my dream: to be a top-level footballer."
Regarding his adaptation in Germany, the player on loan from Real Madrid to Borussia Dortmund admits to having had difficulties adapting, given the difference in playing style.
However, he believes he has made great strides since playing for Dortmund. In this regard, he thinks of his next return to his training club, Real Madrid.
Companion of the Spanish actress of Tunisian and Libyan origins, Hiba Abouk, who is expecting a child from him, Achraf Hakimi expressed overflowing joy and explained that he had scored his last two goals to please this little one to come.
