Moroccan Star El-Bakkali Overcomes On-Track Obstacle to Win Steeplechase Gold

Moroccan athlete Soufiane El-Bakkali won the gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase at the World Championships in Eugene (USA), ahead of Ethiopian Lamecha Girma and Kenyan Conseslus Kipruto. To get there, he had to overcome a major obstacle. An unusual incident that occurred during the race.

As the athletes were running, an overzealous cameraman ventured onto the track. He was seen standing in the middle of the track near the finish line. The athletes had to change direction at the last minute.

The Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020 showed tactical skill and won the gold medal in 8 minutes 25.13 seconds, ahead of his great Ethiopian rival Lamecha Girma, who finished nearly a second behind in 8 minutes 26.01 seconds. As for Kenyan Conseslus Kipruto, the double world champion in 2017 and 2019, he won the bronze medal in 8 minutes 27.92 seconds.
