Moroccan Sports Face Financial Hit as Coronavirus Measures Cancel Events, Close Stadiums

Since the confirmation of two cases of coronavirus in Morocco, sports have been recording losses. This is due to the measures taken by the authorities, including the postponement or cancellation of several sporting events and the ban on public entry into stadiums.
Moroccan associations and clubs are facing a historic situation. The measures taken by the authorities in the face of the coronavirus are causing considerable financial losses.
Clubs like Raja or Wydad of Casablanca are affected by the decision to play all matches behind closed doors. Yet these two clubs alone bring in one million DH per home game, according to Al Ahdath Al Magribia.
In athletics, several road races scheduled for Sunday, March 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day, have been simply canceled. A huge financial loss for the organizers.
